What Is Vintage, You Ask?
Vintage [vin-tij]: (adj.) representing a highest quality of a past time.
We get this question quite often and, conveniently, we give the short answer – any article of clothing, piece of jewelry, furniture item, etc. that is 20 years of age or older. The reality is vintage is so much more than that, so we wanted to illustrate what vintage means to us. Enjoy!
1. Quality. This image looks as if it was taken decades ago, but it was actually captured recently in 2014. The pieces have maintained their appeal over the years because of the high quality of materials (mink, silk, glass – oh my!), expert craftsmanship and attention to detail (just look at the hand beading on the dress!) – a privilege that costs a pretty penny nowadays, but was the standard in years past.
2. Nostalgia. A great vintage piece transports you to a certain place in time. Even if you were not born or raised in the era of the item, there’s something about a vintage piece that captures the essence of that day – the ladylike charm of the 1950s, the freedom and liberation of the 60s and 70s. Here, Julian Pierre pays homage to 90s pop icon and late singer, Aaliyah Dana Haughton. Doesn’t it rock your boat?!
3. Originality. So, when have you ever seen a piece quite like this?! Vintage is a language that speaks to the world without words. It is a means of expression that is uniquely ‘you’ that no two people interpret the same way. Vintage is a tool one can use to leave an impression on this world that says, ‘I was here.’ It’s a signature. That’s vintage!
